Verified Mark Certificates (VMC)

Verified Mark Certificates (VMCs) enable companies to strengthen their brand identity and increase recipients' trust in the authenticity of the email. VMCs are based on the BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) authentication policy and help reduce phishing and spam.

Main Features of Verified Mark Certificates

  • Brand Logo Display: With a VMC, companies can ensure that their official logo is displayed in the avatar area of the email client (e.g., next to the subject line), similar to profile pictures.
  • Trust Building: Since only companies that have verified their trademark rights can receive a VMC, it enhances the credibility of the email and reduces the likelihood of it being perceived as spam.
  • Brand Protection: VMCs protect the brand from misuse by third parties, as only legitimate trademark holders can apply for a VMC.
  • Requirement for BIMI: VMCs are a prerequisite for using BIMI. While BIMI provides the technical framework for logo display, the VMC verifies the trademark rights.

Requirements for a VMC

  • Registered Trademark: The company must own a registered trademark that will be verified through the VMC.
  • DMARC Implementation: The domain using the VMC must be correctly configured with the DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) authentication policy to ensure that emails genuinely come from the sender.
  • Logo in SVG Format: The brand logo must be in a specifically formatted SVG file format that complies with BIMI requirements.
