Email Gateways

Email gateways like NoSpamProxy act as central interfaces between a company’s internal email system and external email traffic. They are typically positioned within the network architecture to process all incoming and outgoing emails. How it works in the network

• Network positioning
  The gateway role of NoSpamProxy can be installed in a demilitarized zone (DMZ) or in the internal network. It receives emails on port 25, checks for spam, and rejects them if necessary.
• Email processing
  Incoming emails: Messages from the internet are received by the gateway, scanned for spam, malware, and other threats, and then forwarded to the internal mail server. Outgoing emails: Internal messages are processed by the gateway, can be encrypted or signed, and are then sent to external recipients.
• Security functions
  Spam and malware protection: Emails are analyzed to detect and block unwanted or harmful messages.
• Encryption and signature
  Emails can be automatically encrypted and signed to ensure confidentiality and integrity. NoSpamProxy offers encryption based on S/MIME and PGP.
• Certificate management
  Gateways centrally manage certificates and keys, simplifying the implementation of security policies. Integration with certificate authorities (CAs) via Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) allows seamless management of certificates for email encryption and signing. The gateway communicates directly with the CA to request, renew, or revoke certificates. Using standard protocols such as SCEP (Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol) or ACME (Automatic Certificate Management Environment), the gateway can automate issuance and management of S/MIME or PGP certificates. PKI ensures sender and recipient identities are authenticated, and message integrity is preserved — reducing administrative effort and ensuring consistent security across the organization.
