Standardized protocols like SCEP (Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol) or ACME (Automatic Certificate Management Environment) allow the gateway to automate the issuance and management of S/MIME or PGP certificates. The PKI ensures that the identities of senders and recipients are authenticated and that message integrity is maintained. This reduces administrative overhead and ensures a consistent security infrastructure across the organization.
