Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
Self-responsible issuance of certificates around the clock - Integration into certificate management systems and gateways.
In companies, numerous email signature certificates and SSL certificates for web servers, mail servers, shops, and intranets are usually required. With a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), organizations can issue their S/MIME and SSL certificates themselves after an initial validation—at any time, without additional checks, and thus completely self-responsibly.
To enable customers to request and obtain certificates for their organization, the identity and authorizations of the organization are verified once before setting up the Managed PKI. After that, certificates can be obtained around the clock from the respective certification authority (e.g., SwissSign, GlobalSign, or DigiCert) without individual checks. If no management solution such as Venafi, Secardeo, or Essendi is available, certificates can be obtained via a user-friendly web interface or through an API.
The specification of SSL or email domains during the setup of a Managed PKI does not associate them with a specific certificate type. This means you can later issue any SSL certificate you ordered for all specified SSL domains. Similarly, the ordered email certificates can be issued for all specified email domains.
A certificate includes a specific validity period. With easy access to certificates, the duration of certificate validity will become irrelevant in the future. This makes Managed PKIs ideal for systems related to "Certificate Life Cycle Management."
